THE WAY OH THE FLAG – 17 LORDI, HARD ROCK HALLELUJAH is a multimedia art event that will take place at the Galerie Terre Rouge, inside the facilities of Kulturfrabrik in Luxembourg. The exhibition is a solo show of the young finish artist, Anja Puntari (born in Germany, 1979, lives and works in Milan).

The artist has a diverse background, which has seen her involved with different techniques such as video, performance and photography. Her research is based on the conceptual reading of the visual, and how the human eye is involved not only physically but also emotionally to its vision. From 2007 on the artist concentrates her work on downloaded material from the Internet, which she elaborates trying to bring the spectator’s mind to particular situations. Her works are not only variable in their techniques but also can be read on different conceptual levels.

This exhibition is concentrated on one of Anja Puntari’s last works of art called ”THE WAY OF THE FLAG – 17 LORDI, HARD ROCK HALLELUJAH”. The inspiration comes from the performance of the Finnish group called Lordi that took place in Athens at the Eurovision Song Contest, one of the most important European music Contest. In 2006 they won the popularity vote for representing Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest. The choice was risky, since it had been years since Finland had won. The group won the challenge and their popularity from nothing, became a social mania.

Though an elaboration of a downloaded video of Lordi’s concert, the artist brings us to reflect on different aspects, from a visual point of view and from a conceptual one. On one side our eyes are brought through the crowd, the flags and the sound of a rock concert. On the other, giving the social and cultural context behind this music concert, it makes one reflect upon how events like these can trigger a patriotic sense, where there is none, charging a simple rock concert with an enormous sense of involvement and solidarity.

Transforming the video from simple work of art into installation, Anja Puntari creates a reflection on the media and it’s different declinations, creating a total experience of the senses, from music, to vision and sound.
